The European Union selects SolarFarm as one of the research and innovation projects that will receive a grant within the SME instrument of its Horizon 2020 framework program. The project will be carried out between the companies QPV and ELA ingeniería. QPV will lead the technical research of this project, whose objective is to facilitate access to capital for PV irrigation systems (PVI) through its packaging in standardized investment instruments built on block-chain technology. This project is one of the evolution paths of the Maslowaten research project, coordinated by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, which has led the European research in PV systems for water pumping for irrigation in the last 3 years. In the context of SolarFarm, advanced technical standards will be applied to guarantee the quality of PVI installations, smart contract modalities will be developed and the necessary tools will be defined to optimize the good performance of the assets throughout their useful life. This will results in the PVI systems gaining direct access to institutional investors, drastically reducing their financing costs and minimizing uncertainty to farmers.
